Paterno Beats Coach Into Mcgregor

State College, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Joe Paterno, the legendary coach of Penn State who was ousted from his job in November, has succumbed to lung cancer. He was 85. The family announced his death Sunday morning.

 

McGregor led three scoring drive in the first quarter, finished 11 of 12 for 123 yards and rushed for a touchdown while leading the North team to a 51-3 romp over the South. He was named his team's most valuable player.

 

"It's weird," said McGregor, who also caught a 7-yard pass in his one quarter of work. "I was MVP from a small school (Belle Glades Day) in my high school all-star game and now in college."

 

Kerwin Bell, McGregor's head coach at Jacksonville, which plays in the non- scholarship Pioneer Football League, was the North's offensive coordinator. The head coach was Bobby Bowden, the legendary former Florida State mentor.

 

Another one of the highlights for the North came from Appalachian State's DeAndre Presley, the quarterback-turned-defensive-back. He returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

 

"Joe Paterno was a great mentor for all of college football. I have considered him my role model for my career here at Brown," Estes added. "I had several opportunities to talk with Joe about football and Brown University, and will cherish those memories. Coach Paterno has been an important part of our football tradition and we will continue to celebrate his storied career and life."

 

As a defensive back, Paterno still holds Brown's all-time career interceptions record (14). He was named to the Bears' 125th anniversary all-time team at defensive back.

 

Paterno also returned punts and kickoffs, posting career averages of 8.8 and 20.1 yards, respectively.

 

Paterno was named Penn State's head coach in 1966 and went on to become the winningest coach in major college football history with 409 career wins. He was fired by trustees in November in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case.

 

I approached the iconic figure on a bright sunny day and asked him about one of his offensive lineman, Jordan Caruso, and he shook my hand and told me I should have asked him during the press conference. I understood immediately Paterno does his business with the media when its appropriate. It was my own fault that I missed the press conference -- darn campus LOOP bus -- but I am forever grateful that I had a chance to shake the Hall of Famer's hand and become just a millisecond part of his storied life.
