Brady practices again, probable for Sunday

Football Betting Lines

12/30/2011 - Foxboro, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was a participant in practice for the second straight day Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's season finale against Buffalo.

Brady missed practice Wednesday for what the team called a non-injury related issue, then was a limited participant on Thursday with a left shoulder injury.

That followed reports that Brady had X-rays taken on the shoulder that turned out to be negative.

If some measure of mystery has surrounded Brady's status this week, Patriots coach Bill Belichick wasn't interested in clearing things up Friday, dodging questions about his quarterback in a familiar fashion.

Belichick's response to what Brady was able to do in practice was: "Play quarterback -- the usual thing."

Asked if Brady was injured during the week, the coach said: "I think we covered that. I think we've already talked about that."

Brady has passed for 4,897 yards this season, second in the NFL to the Saints' Drew Brees, who broke Dan Marino's single-season record on Monday.

Brees has 5,087 yards passing, three more than the previous record of 5,084 set by Marino in 1984. Needing fewer than 200 yards, Brady is also likely to beat the old mark this week.

Guard Logan Mankins (knee) and tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back-foot) won't play Sunday, while 15 other players are listed as questionable, including wide receiver Wes Welker (knee).

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the BCS National Championship odds.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.

A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.

Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
