Flesch pushes lead to two in Reno

08/04/2007 - Reno, NV (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Steve Flesch managed a three-under 69 Friday to extend his lead to two strokes after two rounds of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Flesch completed 36 holes at 12-under-par 132. He owned the 36-hole lead for the fifth time in his career, but he has not held on to win any of the previous four including this event in 2002.

Charles Warren flew into second place as he fired a nine-under 63 to jump to 10-under-par 134. Jose Coceres shot just an even-par 72 and is alone in third at minus-eight.

Johnson Wagner, Jason Dufner, Steve Allan, Todd Fischer and Brendon De Jonge share fourth place at seven-under-par 137.

Flesch played the back nine first on Friday. He posted his first birdie on the par-five 11th. Flesch gave that stroke back with a bogey on No. 14.

He missed the fairway left, then knocked it greenside with his second, but was unable to save par from five feet out.

The 40-year-old Flesch flew two strokes clear of the field with three birdies in a four-hole span from the 15th. That moved him to minus-12.

Around the turn, Flesch stumbled to a double-bogey on the par-three second at Montreux Golf and Country Club. His tee shot buried in a greenside bunker and he left his second shot in the sand. The double-bogey dropped him into a share of the lead with Warren.

Flesch fought back with a two-putt birdie No. 4 and re-claimed the lead at 11- under. He nearly holed his approach at the eighth, but settled for a kick-in birdie to finish two clear of Warren.

"I just like playing here. For some reason I've had success on this golf course," Flesch admitted. "Obviously, I just hung in there today as the wind got blustery. It was a lot different than Thursday's round."

Warren, whose best finish this year (tied for sixth) came in his first start at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, also played the back nine first.

He ran off three straight birdies from the par-five 11th to get his round going. Another birdie at the 18th helped him make the turn in minus-five.

The 32 year old birdied the par-four third and came right back with an eagle on the fourth. Warren also birdied No. 5 to move to minus-nine. He closed his round with a birdie at the eighth.

"Today went well. I was really excited about going out early on some smooth greens," said Warren, who is putting with a belly putter for the first time this week. "I hit it real close a couple times early in the round and that really got me going. After I was three-under through four, I told myself to keep the pedal to the floor and keep going."

Jason Gore headlines a group of players tied for ninth place at six-under-par 138. He was joined there by Jarrod Lyle, John Merrick, Greg Kraft, Corey Pavin and Shaun Micheel. Defending champion Will MacKenzie is one of 10 players tied for 15th at minus-five.

The cut line fell at even-par 144 with 78 players making the cut. Among those who missed the cut were Duffy Waldorf (145), Jeff Quinney (146) and former PGA Championship winner Rich Beem (148).

Sixteen-year-old Tadd Fujikawa, who was playing his first event as a professional, also missed the cut after rounds of 78-71. He carded five birdies, a double-bogey and two-bogeys in the second round.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
