06/05/2010 - Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jon Lester was solid over 6 1/3 shutout innings, continuing his mastery of the Baltimore Orioles in a 8-2 Red Sox victory.
Lester (7-2) allowed four hits and three walks while fanning four to improve to 11-0 lifetime against the Orioles, as the Red Sox notched their seventh straight road win -- the longest such streak for the team since 2005. Lester also won his fourth straight start and has won seven straight decisions over his last nine trips to the mound.
Kevin Youkilis homered and hit a two-run double, while Darnell McDonald and Bill Hall each hit a two-run double for Boston, which has won six of seven overall.
Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie (3-6) was dealt the hard-luck loss after giving up just two runs on five hits and a walk in 7 1/3 frames. Despite the loss, Guthrie has given up just nine runs over his last five starts, spanning 33 1/3 innings.
The Orioles' losing streak reached 10 games, during which they've scored only 16 runs. Scott Moore hit a two-run single in the ninth for Baltimore to snap a 19-inning scoreless stretch.
The Red Sox looked to get on the board right away, putting runners on second and third with two out, but Victor Martinez struck out to end the threat.
Lester retired the first seven batters he faced until Julio Lugo reached on an infield single. Corey Patterson singled with two away in the third, but Miguel Tejada grounded out.
The Orioles threatened again in the fifth, as runners reached second and third with just one out. Lester, though, recovered to retire Cesar Izturis on a pop out before inducing a ground out from Patterson to keep the game scoreless.
Leading off the seventh, Youkilis sent the first pitch he saw to the seats in left to break the tie and give the Red Sox the lead.
Lester got into some trouble in the seventh, issuing three consecutive walks with one away. Daniel Bard came in and got pinch-hitter Luke Scott to fly out to shallow center and Patterson to foul out to maintain Boston's advantage.
The Red Sox added some insurance in the eighth. Josh Reddick, called up from Triple-A earlier in the day, tripled to the gap in right-center, and Marco Scutaro singled over the drawn-in infield two batters later to plate Reddick for a 2-0 lead.
Boston padded its advantage in ninth. Three walks loaded the bases with one out, and McDonald sent a bloop double down the left field line to plate two runners. Hall followed with another double to left to score two more for a 6-0 cushion.
Youkilis added another two-run double later in the inning to put the Red Sox ahead by eight.
Moore hit a two-run single for the Orioles in the final frame to account for the final margin.
Game Notes
The season series is tied, 4-4...Guthrie fell to 1-6 in his career against the Red Sox...Baltimore has a 6-23 record in the AL East...Youkilis finished with three hits...To make room for Reddick, Boston optioned pitcher Scott Atchison to Triple-A Pawtucket.

American Idol odds : Blake Lewis the Early Standout
An important American Idol betting lines recap from February 20 Guys episode. The 12 men came out flat overall with Blake Lewis appearing to have the early edge after the first hour and a half.
Rudy - was quite good singing "Free Ride" to start off. Randy was not impressed though. Paula thought he started off fantastic. "Never had anyone stop off so lively" said Paula but Simon (who does not like Rudy) does not feel he has a distinct voice and was not impressed either.
Brandon was a little pitchy according to Randy and Paula agreed. Simon said he was a good singer but the song was "too safe" and he needs to make an impact. He was listed at +1200 odds or $1200 paid out on a $100 bet should he win the competition.
Big favorite Sundance came in with a flat version of "Knights in White Satin" and the judges let him have it, including Paula. Randy claimed the song was out of pitch throughout.
Korean American - and a Jenny Woo favorite - Paul Kim was up next. Another pitchy flat one but Randy said he still liked his potential. Kim at +3000 odds was said to have sung a "third rate version of that (George Michael) song" according to Simon Cowell. He sang "Careless Whisper".
22 year old Chris Richardson was up next. He was listed with +1100 odds coming in. He got the best response from the judges though Simon did not believe the vocal was that great.
Nick was boring and pitchy. Simon didn't think he was that bad though and predicted he would be back next week. Nick Pedro was a big +3000 dog coming into this competition.
Beat boxer Blake Lewis was listed with early +1000 odds or $1000 payout on a $100 bet if he were to become the next American Idol winner odds . These of course were the early odds. He was considered original for picking an "odd song". He did not beat box and the judges felt it was the best vocal of the night.
Sanjaya came in as the second biggest favorite after Chris Sligh but his performance Tuesday night was not very good.
Chris Sleigh was the early favorite at +450 odds. Great voice and a great sense of humor. He's a real standout. Randy felt it was on point but maybe ahead of the chorus a little bit. Simon Cowell said he felt like he was in some "sort of weird student gig".
Jared Cotter followed. He was listed with +2000 odds early on to win the competition. The judges felt he needs to take more risks but looked good.
22-year old AJ Talbado, who has tried out for American Idol five times, was up next. "Kind of a theme park performance" said Simon. Though the judges felt he performed okay. Simon did feel AJ might be better than he originally thought.
Phil - this season's military favorite - came into this competition with +1200 odds to win the competition. He was the last to perform. He was certainly strong enough to get through this stage of the competition and perhaps the best one after a shaky start.
Tomorrow night, the ladies perform and I sure hope they do a better job than the boys. Check out all the American Idol betting odds here.
