12/27/2006 - Springfield, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Numerologists would have a field day with the 2006-07 Chicago Wolves, who continue to put up offensive numbers rarely seen during the American Hockey Leagues 71-year history.
Chicago wrote another headline in their incredible season when Darren Haydar set an all-time league record by tallying a point in his 32nd consecutive game on Saturday. The record-breaking point was a second-period goal off rookie Josh Tordjman in a 2-1 overtime win over San Antonio.
Haydar came back from the Christmas break and ran the streak to 33 games with three assists in Tuesdays game against Milwaukee.
Almost as amazing as the streak itself is the fact that the fifth-year pro is averaging better than two points per game, putting up 67 points already this season. Wolves teammate Jason Krog, who has missed the last seven contests while on NHL recall to Atlanta, is now a distant second in the league with 52 points.
Nobody outside of Chicago is within 20 points of Haydar (Norfolks Brandon Bochenski is fourth overall with 46 points), and no Western Conference player other than members of the Wolves is even as close as 30 points off the pace.
Chicago has scored 157 goals through 33 games, an average of 4.76 goals per match. Only two AHL teams since 1985 have lit the lamp as often: the 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers (4.90) and the 1992-93 Providence Bruins (4.80).
And thanks in part to their 254 power play chances, most in the league, the Wolves have scored 54 times with the man advantage, putting them on pace to better the existing AHL record (124 by the 1980-81 Nova Scotia Voyageurs).
There are currently four AHL players with at least 20 goals this season, and one of them is already closer to 40 than to 20. Wolves rookie Brett Sterling is starting to run away with the leagues goal-scoring race, with 32 goals in 31 games played and a double-digit lead over his nearest opponents.
The 22-year-old Sterling has scored at least one goal in seven straight games, and is nearly halfway to Stephan Lebeaus overall and rookie record of 70 goals in one AHL season, set with the Sherbrooke Canadiens in 1988-89. Sterling, who won Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month honors in November with 24 points in 12 games (14g, 10a), has followed that up with 14 goals and four assists in 11 games so far in December.
Also:
Cory Larose is also streaking in Chicago, with 18 points (5g, 13a) during his current seven-game run.
Rookie Alex Bourret has 14 points in his last nine games.
Haydar (+20) and defenseman Brian Sipotz (+19) own the top two plus/minus ratings in the league.
Blueliner Boris Valabik continues to lead the league with 133 penalty minutes, and his +15 rating is tops among all AHL rookies.
Derek MacKenzie has three shorthanded goals, one off the AHL lead.
The result? A 24-7-1-1 record which has the Wolves leading the league in wins and points (50) with a current seven-game points streak (6-0-0-1). Chicago has won 15 of 18 on the road this season, and has scored at least five goals in a game in more than half (17) of its 33 outings overall.
The Wolves look to keep it going when Houston visits Allstate Arena on Wednesday night.
CONNECT FOUR ... Chicago and San Antonio combined to score four goals in the final 109 seconds of the Wolves wild 4-3 win at the AT&T Center on Dec. 21. The Rampage tied the score twice in that span, but Brett Sterling put Chicago back in front both times.
The next night, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored the fastest four goals in team history, needing just 2:10 late in the first period to take a 4-0 lead over Bridgeport.
On Dec. 23, Rochester found that good things came in fours, also. The Amerks scored four power-play goals in a span of 4:28 during the second period, turning a two-goal deficit into a two-goal lead en route to a 6-5 win over Binghamton. Mike Funk scored once and Andrej Sekera twice during the outburst, the first pro goals for both defensemen.
The Senators paid it forward on Tuesday, scoring four second-period goals in a 4-2 win over Syracuse. And Iowa scored four times in the final frame to pull out a 5-2 win over Omaha.
12 DAYS OF GIVING ... The San Antonio Rampage undertook a unique initiative leading up to Christmas, with players, coaches, wives and staff spreading holiday cheer each day from Dec. 11-22.
Included among the 12 Days of Giving were donating a Christmas tree (with all the trimmings) to five local families; purchasing and delivering presents to children at a local shelter; preparing and serving lunch to the citys homeless and hungry; collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program and for a childrens hospital; baking Christmas cookies at a childrens home; "adopting" and buying gifts for a needy family; donating a suite for a Spurs basketball game to Special Olympics; and playing street hockey with kids at the Boys & Girls Club.
SPENGLER BOUND ... Several AHL players were among those selected to represent Canada at the 80th Spengler Cup tournament in Davos, Switzerland, this week.
Playing for Canada are Torontos Justin Pogge and Jay Harrison, Grand Rapids Danny Syvret, Iowas Mario Scalzo, Manitobas Brandon Reid and Portlands Tim Brent. The team is being coached by former AHL bench boss Pat Quinn.
ETC. ... After going scoreless in his first 24 games, Albany defenseman Johnny Boychuk has five goals in his last six games, including a hat trick on Dec. 23 at Syracuse... Brandon Bochenski has 30 points (12g, 18a) during his current 13-game scoring streak for Norfolk... Milwaukees Rich Peverley also has points in 13 straight games... Jonathan Filewich became the first Penguins player to score two shorthanded goals in one game in Wilkes-Barre/Scrantons 4-1 win over Norfolk on Saturday... Worcester teammates Mathieu Darche (3g, 2a) and Graham Mink (5a) each had five points in the Sharks 6-4 win over Manchester on Dec. 22... San Antonio was 5-0 in games decided beyond regulation before a 2-1 overtime loss to Chicago on Dec. 23... A 4-for-56 slide has dropped Bridgeport down to last in the league on the power play (12.6 percent), but the Sound Tigers remain first on the penalty kill (89.8 percent)... Through Tuesdays games, three of the AHLs four divisions show second-place teams one point behind the leaders.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6
The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.
Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com. "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America. It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis. It's like Week 1 of the NFL. Pre-season means nada!
We do know the 24 finalists however.
Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24. He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway. He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.
Brandon Rogers - Who?
Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition. He should go a good distance.
Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was. And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition. He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice! People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.
"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks. He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes. But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.
A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”
Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.
"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate. "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past. He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far. Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)
And the others:
Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter
The girls
"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis. "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has. The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive. I think she will go far."
Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.
"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams. Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth. "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.
Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.
Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.
Antonella Barba
Gina Glocksen
Hailey Scanardo
Jordan Sparks
Stephanie Edwards
Leslie Hunt
Sabrina Sloan

After all the trouble that’s ensued since Braylon Edwards allegedly punched one of LeBron James’ homeboys in the face at a club, the Cleveland Browns have sent away their last remaining player of worth to the New York Jets. This is a great move for Dirty Sanchez and all, but it’s even better for the Knicks. Now Donnie Walsh can say, “You get to haunt Braylon Edwards with your posse if you sign here!” next summer.
Putting that aside for a moment, the move is a clear indication that the new-look Jets are gunning for the Super Bowl this year. I don’t think that New York thought that Dirty Sanchez was going to be such a rock star. With a 75.2 passer rating that was killed against the Jets, Sanchez is doing an admirable job of managing games and putting the Jets in a position to win. The defense has been the major story in New York thus far, but the acquisition of Braylon Edwards makes this offense loaded with talent that can dent any defense…as long as Dirty Sanchez continues his meteoric rise.
Thus far, Edwards has been a non-factor in the NFL piling up just 139 receiving yards on 10 catches. He has yet to find the endzone, and with the Browns mired in the most unsexy quarterback controversy of all time (Anderson vs. Quinn...yawn), there going nowhere fast. Edwards is two seasons removed from a career year which saw him catch 80 passes for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns when the Browns were the spread killing monsters of 2007. In 2008, injuries slowed the receiver down to just 873 yards and three touchdowns though he played in all 16 games.
So that being said, we really don’t know if Braylon Edwards is just a flash in the pan, or a legit threat. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he is a prototypical receiver. But he’s also shown a strange, and unwarranted, talent for dropping passes. Lining up opposite Jericho Cotchery, a speed demon with 23 catches, 356 yards and a single touchdown, may give Braylon the open looks he needs. A change of scenery may also rejuvenate the star receiver.
In return, the Browns will receive Chansi Stuckey, online football betting a special teams player you’ve never heard of and a pair of draft picks. That’s a tall order for a guy whose only real value right now is in his name, and it shows no promise to the Browns that they can rebuild around those acquisitions. Braylon was the only reason to hope for the Browns to go 3-14 SU this year. Without him, they don’t have a single guy on offense that can scare any team.
For the Jets, it’s a response to the pounding that they took at the hand of the Saints. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington have averaged around 4.0 yards per carry each on the ground, but striking a fair balance between the passing and rushing attacks in New York has been a struggle. You have to believe that the trio of Dustin Keller, Jericho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards will give Sanchez the weapons he needs to unleash through the air. Theoretically, that would open up holes for the rushing game. But the proposed public option health care plan works in theory too. We need to see the proof in the pudding before we start loading up mega bucks on the New York Jets to take the AFC.
The one wrinkle in this whole thing is that Braylon could very well be suspended by the league for disciplinary action due to his “brawl” with LeBron’s friend. If that’s the case, the Jets may have to bench him for a few games leaving them with a somewhat depleted receiving corps for a few games. Also, this is a guy who gets in fights with people at clubs. New York may not be the best place for him. Just sayin’.
The Jets have a long week before they meet the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football Betting in a virtual pick ‘em game. Braylon’s excess baggage may be a distraction, and his curiously low production may be what we should be expecting of him overall, but for the Jets, taking a chance to strike gold is well worth it. At the end of the year, they can simply just blame it on their rookie quarterback.
