Yanks' Pettitte replaces Buchholz in All-Star Game

Pettitte will head to the Midsummer Classic for the first time since 2001. Buchholz, who was selected for the first time, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a hamstring injury.

The Yankees' hurler was next on the player vote list, triggering his selection to the roster.

At age 38, Pettitte has enjoyed one of his most productive seasons, going 10-2 with a 2.82 earned run average in 16 starts. If his ERA holds through the end of the season, it would be his lowest in 13 years in New York and the second- lowest of his career (HOU, 2005).

The Yankees now have seven players on the roster: shortstop Derek Jeter, second baseman Robinson Cano, third baseman Alex Rodriguez and pitchers Phil Hughes, CC Sabathia and Mariano Rivera. Outfielder Nick Swisher is also eligible in the final fan vote for the 34th roster spot.
